The useful starting number is an hourly rate for the right crew. The final bill also depends on how much work the move involves, the access at each building, and the charges set out in your moving agreement.

Splendid Moving's current local rates are below. Every hourly package has a three-hour minimum.

Crew Cash rate Card rate Three-hour hourly subtotal, cash / card
2 movers and a truck $115/hour $125/hour $345 / $375
3 movers and a truck $145/hour $155/hour $435 / $465
4 movers and a truck $180/hour $190/hour $540 / $570

The minimum figures are rate calculations, not a total moving estimate. Applicable gas fees, additional materials, drive-time charges, and any other agreed services need to be considered separately. Office moves and long-distance moves are quoted individually.

Match the crew to the actual inventory

A two-person crew is the usual starting point for a studio or one-bedroom apartment. A two-bedroom move generally starts with three movers. Three-bedroom and larger household moves start with four. Furniture volume, packing needs, and access can change the plan, so send the item list rather than choosing only from the bedroom label.

A lightly furnished one-bedroom and a one-bedroom with a large book collection are different jobs. Boxes matter. So do storage cages, outdoor furniture, and the desk you moved into the spare corner last year.

The lowest hourly rate does not by itself tell you which crew will produce the lowest total. Ask the team to explain its recommendation against your inventory and access details.

Separate labor from the other charges

Splendid's local moving work includes a truck, furniture blankets, disassembly and reassembly, and packing and unpacking labor. Tape and shrink wrap are included. Boxes, bubble wrap, and other additional materials can carry a separate charge. Confirm the packing plan and materials before comparing totals.

The current gas-fee schedule uses the driving circuit from the Los Angeles base to pickup, then to delivery, and back to the base. It is not simply the distance between your two homes.

Rounded circuit miles Gas fee
0–35 $30
36–55 $50
56–75 $60
76–120 $70
121–170 $80
171–250 $100

Splendid's local quote terms also explain Double Drive Time when the driving distance between pickup and delivery is over 15 miles. The driving time for that leg is doubled for billing under those terms. Ask how that applies to your route and how the written agreement describes the charge.

Long-distance moves need an individual pricing conversation based on the route and shipment. Confirm which rates, documents, and terms apply before comparing a long-distance price with a local hourly calculation.

Read a worked example as arithmetic

Suppose a two-person local move uses four billable hours at the current cash rate. The labor calculation is four times $115, or $460. If the confirmed gas fee is $30, that subtotal is $490.

That is an illustration. It does not predict how long your apartment will take. It also leaves out any applicable additional materials, drive-time adjustment, or other agreed charges. A different route or access situation changes the inputs.

For California household moves, BHGS advises customers to obtain the required written estimate after a visual inspection and review the moving agreement. An online hourly-rate illustration is not a substitute for that process. Read the BHGS consumer guide when comparing movers.

Send the details that affect the work

Include both full addresses, floor numbers, elevator availability, and the approximate walk from the truck to each door. Photograph bulky furniture and mention anything that needs disassembly. Say which rooms you want help packing.

For an apartment with stairs, the walk-up moving guide explains what to measure. Better access details make the planning conversation more useful than a guessed total based on square footage alone.

Request your moving quote with those details. Ask which rates and charges apply to the job, what still needs inspection, and what documents you will receive before moving day.
